3.Lake Como & UNESCO Dry-stone Walls Vineyards

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 23 reviews · 11 to 12 hours (approx.) · from $150

Travel by train from Milan to Varenna, then ride through Lake Como and the Valtellina Valley with a small English-speaking group. Luca or Sylvia may guide you through villages, a mill, a local lunch, wine tasting, and UNESCO dry-stone terraces. Lunch and tastings cost extra.

“This was a very nice tour of an area I probably never would have seen otherwise! We had a relatively small group (7 people) whom we travelled around to different villages near Lake Como. Our guide, Luca, made the tour very personal and gave great details about everything we were seeing. We went to a delicious lunch at an agriturismo (the cost of lunch isn’t included but definitely worth it) and then to a winery for a tasting. Getting to and from on the train was a breeze. If you’re interested in seeing Lake Como and especially the Valtellina wine valley north of the lake, I’d definitely recommend!”

At Cantina Urbana on Via Ascanio Sforza, you’ll tour a working Milan cellar, learn how steel tanks, amphorae, and barriques shape the wine, then taste four pours with cured meats and cheeses. Sessions run about 90 minutes in English for groups of up to 10.

“OUTSTANDING Experience!!! Can't say enough about this place! The service is amazing, the venue is great, and the wines are unique and fun! We arrived an hour early for our tasting and were able to get some pre-drinks in, had a wonderful tasting, and then stayed after and bought a couple of bottles. I highly recommend this for a few hours away from the city center!”
